Which RAM or SSD fits your laptop? Check fit and price in Pakistan

In our catalogue at the last daily update, the cheapest in-stock options were an 8 GB DDR4 stick from Rs. 10,500, a 16 GB DDR4 stick from Rs. 20,500, a 1 TB NVMe SSD from Rs. 37,199. DDR5 costs more than DDR4, and bigger or faster drives cost more. Stock and prices can change after you see them, so the final price is confirmed when you message us on WhatsApp or visit the shop.

If the laptop still has a spinning hard drive, change to an SSD first: it is the biggest speed gain you can feel. If it already has an SSD but slows down with many tabs or apps open, and Task Manager shows memory nearly full, add RAM. For office use 8 GB is a minimum and 16 GB is comfortable. These are general guides, not a test of your own laptop.

The easiest way is the free CPU-Z program: open it and look at the Memory tab for the Type. In Windows you can also open Task Manager, then Performance, then Memory, and look at the top-right corner. As a rough guide, DDR3 is common in laptops from before about 2016, DDR4 in most laptops from about 2016 to 2022, and DDR5 in many newer models. The exact model matters more than the year.

If your laptop has two SO-DIMM slots, yes. Many business laptops, such as ThinkPad T-series and EliteBook 800-series, have two. Adding a second matching stick can also give dual-channel speed. If there is only one slot, you replace the existing stick with a bigger one. Some thin laptops, such as the Dell XPS 13 and Surface Laptop, have soldered RAM that cannot be upgraded. The advisor marks these models.

Yes. A 2.5 inch SATA SSD fits any laptop with a normal hard-drive bay and no M.2 slot. It is usually much faster than a spinning hard drive: about 500 MB/s for a SATA SSD compared with roughly 80 to 120 MB/s for a typical laptop HDD. Check the drive thickness if your laptop is very slim.

M.2 is the small slot shape inside the laptop. NVMe is a faster way of talking to the drive through that slot. Many NVMe drives read at 2,000 to 7,000 MB/s, compared with about 500 MB/s for SATA SSDs. Not every M.2 slot accepts NVMe, and some accept only M.2 SATA drives, so check your model first. The advisor shows NVMe drives only for NVMe laptops.

If you replace the drive, clone the old one first with a free tool such as Macrium Reflect on Windows, or do a fresh Windows install and copy your files across. If you add a second drive in a spare bay, no moving is needed: it shows up as a new empty drive. Back up important files before you start either way.
